Earlier in the week my dad and I took a trip up to Sunset Lodge on Oak Island up in The North West Angle. I have been there before but most of the time I am the camera man and don't usually get a chance to experience the actual trip. We spent two days on the ice, one day in Minnesota and another in Canada. Our first day out we targeted walleyes in one of the resorts heated shacks in 22 feet of water and ended up with one nice walleye in the slot, a bunch of nice eater saugers and a few 14 to 16'' walleyes. The shacks that were a little deeper in 27 to 30' ended up catching quit a few more fish but after all not a bad day on the ice. On day two we headed over to Canada after crappies. Ive wanted to have a chance at those big crappies since last year when I was there shooting the Women On Ice event. Some of the women ended up going home with a few mounter size crappies in the 15 to 16'' range and only fished crappies for a half a day. The crappie spot our friend and guide Dan Schmidt took us to was about a 20 minute ride from camp at 15 to 20 mph. Dad had a crappie over 14'' in the first four minutes of fishing and we got our limit with no trouble at all. Caught lots of crappies in the 10 to 12'' inch range and even had a few big perch up to 13 inches and some saugers and tulibee through out the afternoon. Two other guys followed us out and they went home with two crappies to mount that were over 15''. After all a great couple of days on the ice. Big thanks to Sunset Lodge and Dan Schmidt...

Now that looks like some fun. I'm going to have to go up one of these years.
